Dance is one of the liveliest and most participatory art forms, and it constitutes a major element in the folk traditions of many European countries and minority cultures.
The European Dance Caravan was a travelling dance extravaganza taking the best of traditional music and dance from eight European nations on a tour to all their territories.
The show represented the aspects of different folk traditions, including the music and colourful costumes, whether in older or contemporary forms of expression.
A unified orchestral piece was one of several highlights of each performance, once again demonstrating the powerful effects of successful intercultural mixing.
This spectacular project raised awareness of the common cultural heritage shared by performers and audiences alike – from countries as diverse as Finland and Cyprus – as it travelled around Europe. It also promoted respect for the folklore heritage of the different nations and communities in Europe, regardless of the social differences present in any given society.
